I personally endeavor to offer something different though. I know I can do nothing about your past and the conditions that have lead you to this present now. I offer a different model, a shift in perspective. The model I work from is an educational model of health rather than a medical model of health. The primary difference is that from the beginning you are seen as a whole person rather than as a group of symptoms to be treated. To me there is nothing wrong with you. You have simply lived your life and have your own personal experience of living. This is to be deeply respected. Your living has brought you to now. To me it is significant that you have had the ability to live in this changing and challenging world. My work is to remind you of the extraordinary capacity you have for learning. It is learning that will make it possible for you to acquire new behaviors and give you a chance to improve your comfort in life. I am not an expert treating you. I am a person who agrees to provide you the means for you to find within yourself your own capacity to live in comfort.
When you come to me I will ask you, "What shall we learn together today?" "What would you like to explore so your life can be more sublime and meaningful for you?" Our lesson begins now with all of your history behind you and all of your potential ahead of you. We very carefully begin to learn how to examine what you do and how you act, so you can learn to pay attention to how you work against yourself. We learn how to find alternatives in your actions that are more efficient and pleasurable. You learn how to move with greater ease. You learn how to increase your ability to pay attention to yourself and how you act. You learn how to be aware of possibilities for comfort and grace you didn't know you had. You enter into the land of discovering what you didn't know that you didn't know. It is a wonderful adventure into the possibilities you have for yourself. We work to expand your body image and your self-concept. As you learn more about yourself, you learn how to apply your learning into your daily life to make it richer, fuller and more complete. You learn the value of learning. You learn to find stability within yourself and support yourself in new ways.
